1/31/2024 0 Comments Okami ps2 last boss![]() Borrowing heavily from it’s mythology roots the developer choose to make all the characters look as if they had been drawn in feudal Japan and just lifted from these scrolls on to screen. You could walk into a museum in Japan, look at some wall scrolls and artwork from early feudal Japan, and you’d get an idea of the art direction for “Okami”. ![]() The higher resolution does make the game look sharper and in my book that is a good thing. But with the cel-shaded style of the game it didn’t really need better textures. I didn’t notice any dramatic improvement to textures or anything like that. Okami’s original graphics were truly artwork and the addition of 1080p resolution only helps make the game look even better. With a fairly detailed and well done cel-shading engine, Clover has created a truly hand-drawn appearance that accompanies everything the game tries to accomplish gameplay-wise. Hands down, one of the biggest attractions in Okami are the graphics. With “Okami” you can tell the developers consciously decided to make something more than a game, and we should all feel a little luckier knowing that developers can get paid to make games like this. To say that many people were excited to see the almost hand-drawn and cel-shaded graphics would be an understatement. When Clover Studios broke off on its own I wondered what the heck could Capcom be thinking? Here was a studio packed with the talent that created great games like Devil May Cry, Resident Evil and Viewtiful Joe, and Capcom was letting them go out on there own! Well lucky for Capcom and for us they’ve contracted Clover for a good amount of titles and one of the first new Clover titles is “Okami”, a highly stylized game based on traditional Japanese mythos and solid “Zelda-style” gameplay. So rather than write two reviews for the same game, this review will take the original Gaming Trend review and add quoted sections that deal with the changes made to the HD version of Okami on the PS3. ![]() The game and our review holds up to this day and can easily speak for the greatness of Okami HD. Editors Note: This is a review of Okami HD on the PS3, Gaming Trend originally reviewed Okami on the PS2 way back when it was first released. 1/31/2024 0 Comments Trading card store![]() It opened in 2010 as an online-only buying-and-trading enterprise, before breaking ground on a physical location in 2018. ![]() The Meelypops Shop represents a real success story. The Meelypops Shop - Gainesville, Florida Have a few cards you want to submit to the PSA for grading? The Bullpen is happy to assist with that as well. This slender LA store is eclectic - in fact, one of their prized possessions is a signed, foil Diego Maradona. Like the name implies, The Bullpen is California’s home for all sorts of high-quality baseball singles, but don’t sleep on the rest of the offerings. Who knows? Maybe what you find there will pay for the whole trip. ![]() Hareruya 2 is a must-stop for anyone planning a Japanese vacation. The shop’s owners claim that its the largest Pokemon emporium in the world, and given the five floors packed to the gills with laminated Charizards and Blastoises, it’s hard to argue with that assertion. If it’s sheer size you’re after, venture out to Akhihabara in Tokyo, Japan and wander into the gilded halls of Hareruya 2. But really, any memorabilia fan will feel right at home here. Given the Bay State bias, expect to find a lot of gear oriented towards the Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, and Red Sox. Sportsworld is tiled with autographed baseballs, framed posters, and of course, lots and lots of cards. Phil Castinetti has operated his Sportsworld emporium since the early ’80s, and since then he’s branded his business as the biggest memorabilia shop in New England. Phil Castinetti’s Sportsworld - Saugus, Massachusetts Heck, if you’re bored of the card selection, go ahead and take a look at their robust comics or video game section. It’s a crucial pilgrimage for any serious collector. But don’t sleep on its humongous brick and mortar location in Buffalo, where customers wander convention-sized aisles and take home jerseys, booster packs, and boxes. Jump on the website, and purchase literally anything under the memorabilia umbrella, all of which will be delivered directly to your door. Dave & Adams is probably best known for its massive online library. 1/31/2024 0 Comments The maltese falcon![]() It turns out that she is the member of the trio responsible for murdering Miles Archer.Īnd though Sam never really liked his partner all that much, his code of honor demands that he turn her over to the police to face prosecution. The beautiful woman with the many names, on the other hand, learns the hard way that Sam Spade trust nobody. The fat man and Joe Cairo will live to pursue the real falcon another day. After much positioning and even more hope that the bird which Sam has Effie deliver will finally turn out to be the mythical treasure known as the Maltese Falcon, all hopes and positioning is dashed as closer scrutiny reveals that beneath the heavy black lacquer lies not the jewels of the Knights Templar, but a worthless bit of metal. The location of which at the moment is known and accessible only to Sam as a result of early decision to entrust the stash delivered by the dying man to probably the only person in the world he feels anything for that can even approach being referred to as trust: his secretary Effie Perine who is as devoted to Sam as Sam is devoted to believing the worst of everyone. Cairo taking advantage as the occasion warrants to lie, finagle, cheat, betray, humiliate and even beat up each other in an attempt to outwit the other two as well as Sam to get their greedy, grubby little hands on the bird. The bulk of The Maltese Falcon centers around the spectacle of the friends of the fey Mr. The three (along with the gunsel) together make for quite an entertaining spectable to Spade. The fat man's overly strong attachment to a young wannabe thug named Wilmer that Spade derisively refers to as the gunsel also contains elements hinting strongly of a homosexual relationship. And so Sam Spade is introduced to a very beautiful woman who goes by as many different names as Sam has clients, an enormously fat man with the enormously fitting name of Casper Gutman and a bizarre little man whose name- Joel Cairo-possibly may indicate Middle Eastern descent and whose mannerisms strongly suggest to Spade the specter of homosexuaity, but who may be merely effeminate. The bird that those three incontestably odd people have been searching the world over for. The wounds prove fatal and the bundle proves to be a large and heavy statue of a big black bird. Shortly after the death of the man who shares Spade’s office on the streets of San Francisco, a mysterious man stumbles off those streets and into Spade’s office carrying a tightly wrapped bundle. Archer dies the kind of sad, lonely death that he might well have faced if the case had been just another nasty cheating spouse assignment. Exotic in its own beautiful way, the death of Miles Archer is anything but glamorous. Unfortunately for Archer, that pursuit which has been going on for some time and taking the three to various exotic locations around the world has brought the chase to San Francisco. Archer had been tailing one of the three unusually idiosyncratic pursuers of an ancient statuette allegedly constructed by order of the Knights Templar as a gift for the King of Spain. Somewhat shockingly, the story opens with the murder of Sam Spade’s partner in private investigation, Miles Archer. The primary difference between the novel and film, actually, is that Bogey’s Sam Spade winds up being far more admirable than the trio of low-life treasure hunters scheming and betraying each other in pursuit of the “stuff that dreams are made of.” In the novel, Spade is definitely an overall better human being than those three…but just barely. Much of that film adaptation-the third movie version of the novel, by the way-features scenes left intact with huge chunks of dialogue transferred verbatim from page to screen. The Maltese Falcon is a slim novel that moves along at a rapid pace and feels almost as fleeting as watching the iconic film adaptation starring Humphrey Bogart as its world-weary private detective Sam Spade. They seem to pop up just about everywhere.īut how exactly did this practice come to be? They refer to black Africans and Caribbean contributions to war in the 16th century. Public figures from the local mayor to the Queen of England dawn them proudly. Black poppy flowers are also commonly used as a symbol of remembrance. ![]() ![]() The poem features the line In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow. What brought it back The Falklands in 1982, reminding us that we had not done with war. They chose the poppy in recognition of a famous WW1 poem called In Flanders Fields. Offices would certainly not have fallen silent at 11 am. In the weeks preceding Remembrance Day, we see the red flower pinned to people’s lapels. Remembrance Sunday was observed in churches, rather unenthusiastically, but Armistice Day November 11 hardly at all. The day is also marked by one very important and iconic symbol: the poppy.
1/30/2024 0 Comments A mess o trouble ray dunakin![]() It also revises and updates the design, based on reader feedback, to provide a better reading experience. This newly-expanded edition adds around 70 pages of extra content, including a foreword by The 7th Guest co-creator and id Software and Apple alum Graeme Devine, plus an annotated timeline, over 60 extra images, an icon gallery, and more than 6,000 extra words added to the chapter narratives - on top of the 115,000 words from the 1st edition - covering a variety of additional game and developer stories, including the tales behind Snood, Chaos Overlords, The Dungeon of Doom, and more. ![]() As with all our books, we use thread sewn binding for extra durability and print lithographically on high-quality paper to showcase the gorgeous visuals as they deserve. The Secret History of Mac Gaming also features guest chapters from Craig Fryar, Apple’s first Mac games evangelist and the co-creator of hit game Spectre, as well as specially-created divider illustrations and cover art by graphic designer and pixel artist JJ Signal, all styled in the gorgeous 1-bit aesthetics of early Macintosh games. At 480 pages long, The Secret History of Mac Gaming features eye-catching coloured page edges, a hardback cover printed with pantone inks and a colour-coded bookmark ribbon. It’s a book about people who followed their hearts first and market trends second, showing how clever, quirky, and downright wonderful video games could be. Written by award-winning journalist and game historian Richard Moss, The Secret History of Mac Gaming draws on a combination of archive material and around 80 interviews with key figures from the era to tell the story of those communities and the game developers who survived and thrived in an ecosystem that was serially ignored by the outside world. It welcomed strange ideas and encouraged experimentation. It fostered passionate and creative communities who inspired and challenged developers to do better and to follow the Mac mantra: ‘think different’. It allowed anyone to create games and playful software with ease, and gave indie developers a home for their products. Mac gaming led to much that is now taken for granted by PC gamers and spawned some of the biggest franchises in video game history - including Myst, Halo, and SimCity. It made human-computer interaction friendly, inviting, and intuitive. It challenged the medium to be more than child’s play and quick reflexes. 1/30/2024 0 Comments 3 civilization beyond earth imagesThe worshippers were mainly elderly, with a few younger people, even children, mixed in. We arrived during a short break between services. On a cloudy Sunday this past March, we visited the cathedral, which sits just a few streets away from the Dnipro River-now the front line-to try to understand why the Russian army, in the chaotic final days of its occupation of Kherson, had paused to rob a grave. The bones were kept in a crypt beneath the cathedral nave. Catherine’s Cathedral, in Kherson, built by Potemkin himself. His skull and at least several other bones-which ones, exactly, is a mystery-were eventually brought to St. ![]() It was then that the Russians did something particularly strange: They kidnapped the bones of Grigory Potemkin. By October, this new Potemkin village was collapsing, and the resurgent Ukrainian army was approaching the outskirts of Kherson. Even as the occupiers held a ludicrous referendum, designed to show that Ukrainians had chosen Russia, the Russian army was quietly preparing to flee. Partisans fought back inside the city, with car bombs and sabotage. In September, Putin held a ceremony in the Kremlin declaring Kherson and other occupied territories to be part of Russia. Russian soldiers kidnapped the mayor, tortured city employees, murdered civilians, and stole children. In a bid to restore Potemkin’s cities to Russian suzerainty, Russia occupied Kherson in early March of 2022, at the outset of a campaign to annihilate both Ukraine and the idea of Ukraine. ![]() The tale also evokes something we recognize to be true, not just of imperial Russia but of Putin’s Russia, where mind-boggling efforts are made to please the leader-efforts that these days include telling him he is winning a war that he is most definitely not winning. These villages probably never existed, but the story has endured for a reason: The sycophantic courtier, creating false images for the empress, is a figure we know from other times and other places. The story goes that Potemkin built fake villages along her route, populated with fake villagers exuding fake prosperity. In 1787, Catherine paid a six-month visit to Crimea and the land then known as New Russia. The rest of the world remembers Potemkin differently, for something that we would now call a disinformation campaign. The mat had a slight chemical smell when it was unboxed but that dissipated quickly and we noted that it was easy to roll and stayed rolled. We also like that it's 2 inches wider than the typical 24-inch width that most mats offer. We realized that we didn't need any additional padding, even for exercises done on our hands and knees. We liked the bubbly texture and found that it made the mat very grippy.Īt 6 millimeters, this mat is thick enough to provide plenty of support and is more cushioned than other lululemon mats we tested. During testing, we noted the raised texture on the mat surface provided great traction so there was no slipping, even when our hands were sweaty. This stylish yoga mat from lululemon provides excellent grip and stability for a variety of poses, making it our best overall runner-up. Key Specs: Thickness: 5 millimeters | Material: Sustainably-sourced rubber and polyurethane leather | Size: 74.4 x 26.4 inches | Weight: 6.2 pounds We also found that sweat and water leave a light, temporary stain that evaporates when you let the mat dry flat for a few minutes after your practice. However, the easy care instructions make cleaning it a breeze. We tested a light color of this mat, and we noticed that dirt showed up on the surface easily. However, it rolls up into a tight coil that makes it easy to tote around. The 5-millimeter thickness provides enough support for your knees when holding poses like Lizard Pose or Frog Pose for longer during a yin yoga practice. Since it weighs just over 6 pounds, it’s not a light mat. This Alo mat also provided a strong grip out of the box, with no break-in period-we didn’t slip once while using it. We found the mat to be thick and roomy, with plenty of space for an intermediate vinyasa flow. It struck the perfect balance of cushioning and support that didn’t cause wrist fatigue in positions like Downward Facing Dog. Our top picks are ideal for hot yoga, traveling, at-home use, and more.Īfter a full day in the Lab, Alo Yoga's Warrior Mat was our top overall pick for its simple, high-quality design. Finally, we cleaned them to make sure they were easy to take care of over time. ![]() We also evaluated whether the mats could stand up to sweat and humidity without growing slippery. After over 1,100 hours of testing, we evaluated how well each mat unrolled and laid flat, how well the padding and thickness supported our practice, whether the mat provided a non-slip surface, and how portable they were. To find the best yoga mats, we tested 24 mats in The Verywell Testing Lab and at home over a four-week period. Ingber also suggests considering aesthetics when choosing a mat, as your mat's colors and design may inspire you to spend more time enjoying your practice. To know what to look for in a yoga mat, we consulted Mandy Ingber, a yoga instructor and author of Yogalosophy: 28 Days to the Ultimate Mind-Body Makeover, and chose mats for our test based on material, size, thickness and grippiness, as well as price and portability. Whether you’re going to a local studio or practicing at home, having a quality yoga mat that provides the right amount of grip and support is critically important. Yoga mats are an incredibly versatile piece of fitness equipment and an integral part of many home workout routines. |
